Best decision ever!!
I signed my twin seven year old boys up for their first karate class in late September. Almost immediately, both their teachers and I noticed dramatic improvements in their behavior. Prior to karate, they couldn't focus on tasks and often got in trouble for impulsively acting out. There was a dramatic improvement right away, and I still continue to see improvements with focus, week after week (now just over 4 months in). The focus and respect that they have learned has really allowed our family to spend more time enjoying each other and less time focusing on behavior correction. I can't thank the Brian Mayes team enough!!

For the last month, I've been taking the adult kickboxing class here. It's really fun, motivating, and I can already see a change in how my clothes fit me. I leave each class feeling (sweaty and) great. I was hesitant about signing up for a 3x/week class, but I find myself wanting to go each time. I can't say I feel the same way about my home gym equipment. These instructors keep me moving and keep me wanting more. I love it.

The kickboxing classes are always fun and energetic; great for ALL skill levels!
Whether you haven't been to the gym in years or you have a bunch of Spartan races under your belt, you will leave feeling 100 times better than before you came in.
Instructors are amazing and motivational. When you walk through the doors, you're already a part of the family.

I started BMK kickboxing almost a year ago and a daily workout here has become integral to starting my busy days off right!

I have absolutely loved the kickboxing classes! I am totally new to kickboxing and have found the workouts to be engaging, challenging, and fun! The instructors are friendly and love helping you understand technique. A huge bonus is that just after 12 weeks I've noticed lots of improvement in my fitness level, as well as more muscle tone and a trimmer waistline. Hello abs, here we come :) Thanks Kerri, Edith, Megan and Melanie for the awesome workouts!

How to Instill a Good Work Ethic in My Child

You may be wondering why you need to develop a good work ethic in kids. Does it mean you’re going to make them work at a young age? Definitely not!

What this article will tell you is that it’s important to establish a good work ethic in your kids at an early age. With this, there is a greater chance that they will be successful in school and their job in the future. If you want to make that happen, here are five ways on how you can develop good work ethics in your children.

TEACH THEM THE VALUE OF A DOLLAR

The main objective of working is to earn money. So, you can start by introducing the value of a dollar to your kids. Show them different types of dollar bills and teach them which has a higher and lower value.

Also, explain to your kids how they can earn a dollar and how to spend it wisely. Children need to know that they cannot easily get money unless they work hard for it. Tell them that money doesn’t grow on trees and it has to take time, energy, and focused effort before they can earn some.

BE AN EXAMPLE

Show them how much effort you put into your job so they will know what’s expected of them when they work in the future. Be a role model to your children because if they see you working hard, putting your heart into your job, and seeing a great outcome, they will look up to you. Your children will aim to be like you- dedicated and hardworking.

Also, talk to them about how you are able to buy food and pay for bills because of your hard work. Not to boast but to make them understand that hard work pays off.

TEACH KIDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS

Kids usually blame everything around them when something goes wrong under their control.

“You made me loose.” “I can’t find my… Someone moved it.” Sound familiar?

They do this to save themselves from negative consequences or punishments. You have to teach your kids to take responsibility for their actions. They may be frightened to get scolded, so you should explain that making mistakes is normal, and it’s actually an opportunity to learn.

OFFER REWARDS AND PRAISE FOR HARD WORK

Give them encouragement. Make it a goal to focus more on their good deeds and praise them for every little accomplishment. We certainly like hearing compliments at work, and it encourages us to work harder. That’s exactly what your kids feel too when you praise them.

Moreover, whenever they do a job or a task in your home, offer them rewards but not material things or money. For example, you can add thirty minutes to their playtime if they organize their toys or fix their bed right after they wake up.

ENCOURAGE YOUR KIDS TO WORK FOR WHAT THEY WANT

Kids have tons of wants whether it be their favorite food or toys. What you need to do is tell your kids to work hard if they want to get something.

For example, if they want to get a specific toy on their birthday but it’s kind of expensive, then it might be good to give them encouragement to work for it. Tell them to work hard like studying well, doing household chores, behaving properly, and then you can give the toy as a reward.

Make them understand that when they grow up, what it’s like when they want to get something. They need to work hard for it, and put time and effort into it.

CONCLUSION

Teaching your kids good work ethics doesn’t mean you’re going to let them work at an early age. You just have to introduce them to how it’s like to work, and what things they need to do and consider.
