Best decision ever!!
I signed my twin seven year old boys up for their first karate class in late September. Almost immediately, both their teachers and I noticed dramatic improvements in their behavior. Prior to karate, they couldn't focus on tasks and often got in trouble for impulsively acting out. There was a dramatic improvement right away, and I still continue to see improvements with focus, week after week (now just over 4 months in). The focus and respect that they have learned has really allowed our family to spend more time enjoying each other and less time focusing on behavior correction. I can't thank the Brian Mayes team enough!!

For the last month, I've been taking the adult kickboxing class here. It's really fun, motivating, and I can already see a change in how my clothes fit me. I leave each class feeling (sweaty and) great. I was hesitant about signing up for a 3x/week class, but I find myself wanting to go each time. I can't say I feel the same way about my home gym equipment. These instructors keep me moving and keep me wanting more. I love it.

The kickboxing classes are always fun and energetic; great for ALL skill levels!
Whether you haven't been to the gym in years or you have a bunch of Spartan races under your belt, you will leave feeling 100 times better than before you came in.
Instructors are amazing and motivational. When you walk through the doors, you're already a part of the family.

I started BMK kickboxing almost a year ago and a daily workout here has become integral to starting my busy days off right!

I have absolutely loved the kickboxing classes! I am totally new to kickboxing and have found the workouts to be engaging, challenging, and fun! The instructors are friendly and love helping you understand technique. A huge bonus is that just after 12 weeks I've noticed lots of improvement in my fitness level, as well as more muscle tone and a trimmer waistline. Hello abs, here we come :) Thanks Kerri, Edith, Megan and Melanie for the awesome workouts!

5 Signs You’re Eating Too Much Sugar

We need sugar to survive since it is an essential source of energy. However, too much sugar intake is not ideal. When asked what might happen if you eat too much sugar, the common answer will be “having a toothache”. But it can result in worse situations. It can lead to more serious health problems like obesity, inflammation, high blood pressure, and diabetes. So, you need to control everything you eat and make sure to not exceed the right amount of sugar intake.

But how do we know that we are already consuming too much sugar? In this article, you’ll know what the signs are.

You experience mood swings, depression, or anxiety

After eating sweets, people’s emotions can go a little haywire. If you notice that you are being moody lately, it could be an effect of eating too much sugar. According to many studies, eating added sugars can result in inflammation, irritability, mood swings, and depression.

Moreover, if your way of dealing with your mood swings is eating your favorite chocolate, then you’re just worsening your situation.

You’re experiencing stomach problems like bloating & indigestion

We all know that sugar is not good for you, but did you also know it can cause stomach problems? Too much sugar can lead to problems like stomachache, cramping, and diarrhea. Sugar on its own will never hurt us. It’s when we eat too much of the sweet stuff and have no other foods to balance out our diet with protein or fiber does an episode happens. When your body has a lot of sugars in it without anything else healthy going through, bad bacteria are more likely to grow and bacteria love eating sugars. There are also types of sugar that cause gas or bloating especially for people who have digestive conditions.

Your teeth are becoming more sensitive to hot & cold temperatures

When you were a kid, your parents kept warning you that if you eat too many candies, you will have tooth decay. This is because sugar is a food of bacteria living in your mouth. So, when you start to feel that something is wrong with your teeth, that’s the time you can say that you have a cavity because of eating too many sweets. Your teeth become more sensitive to the hotness and coldness of foods.

Your skin is breaking out in acne

Have you been breaking out these past few weeks? Try to recall what you’ve been eating the most lately. Maybe you’ve been into unhealthy foods like sweets.

A study shows that if you take sugary drinks more than seven times a week, you are more likely to experience moderate to severe acne. Not just sugar itself can cause acne but also foods with a high glycemic index that eventually convert to sugar. High consumption of these increases major contributors of acne such as insulin-like growth factors, sebum, and androgens. The rise in insulin levels is considered a “burst of inflammation all over your body”. Remember that inflammation is not good for your skin.

Your mouth feels dry after drinking water or juice

When you feel your mouth is dry even after drinking water or juice, it indicates dehydration. Dehydration is the result of not drinking enough water. It can happen if you always eat sweets like ice cream, chocolate, and cookies, and do not drink water after.
