Best decision ever!!
I signed my twin seven year old boys up for their first karate class in late September. Almost immediately, both their teachers and I noticed dramatic improvements in their behavior. Prior to karate, they couldn't focus on tasks and often got in trouble for impulsively acting out. There was a dramatic improvement right away, and I still continue to see improvements with focus, week after week (now just over 4 months in). The focus and respect that they have learned has really allowed our family to spend more time enjoying each other and less time focusing on behavior correction. I can't thank the Brian Mayes team enough!!

For the last month, I've been taking the adult kickboxing class here. It's really fun, motivating, and I can already see a change in how my clothes fit me. I leave each class feeling (sweaty and) great. I was hesitant about signing up for a 3x/week class, but I find myself wanting to go each time. I can't say I feel the same way about my home gym equipment. These instructors keep me moving and keep me wanting more. I love it.

The kickboxing classes are always fun and energetic; great for ALL skill levels!
Whether you haven't been to the gym in years or you have a bunch of Spartan races under your belt, you will leave feeling 100 times better than before you came in.
Instructors are amazing and motivational. When you walk through the doors, you're already a part of the family.

I started BMK kickboxing almost a year ago and a daily workout here has become integral to starting my busy days off right!

I have absolutely loved the kickboxing classes! I am totally new to kickboxing and have found the workouts to be engaging, challenging, and fun! The instructors are friendly and love helping you understand technique. A huge bonus is that just after 12 weeks I've noticed lots of improvement in my fitness level, as well as more muscle tone and a trimmer waistline. Hello abs, here we come :) Thanks Kerri, Edith, Megan and Melanie for the awesome workouts!

What to Look For When Registering Your Child for Summer Camp

The idea of signing your child up for summer camp can be concerning at first. If you’re considering signing your child up for his or her first summer camp, you may be in for a stressful experience. You’ll want to find a camp that’s safe, fun and fits within your budget. Luckily, there are a few easy ways to take the stress out of the signup process.

Don’t Wait Until the Last Second

Children thrive on schedules, habits & routines, which not only create a feeling of security but also help children learn self-control & focus. Talk with your child about what to expect each day. Organize the house so your child knows where to put their shoes, coats, etc. Quiet activities like reading, or completing a puzzle together can help your child slow down & increase focus.

Find the Spring/Summer Sweet Spot

Finding a happy medium between rushing to sign up on the first day of registration, and scrambling to find an open camp at the last second, lands you right in the heart of spring. Many camps offer early registration discounts that can extend all the way up until the end of April, with some even lasting up to the end of May. Try setting up a calendar reminder for the first day of registration for next year. This will ensure that you’re on top of reserving your child’s spot.

Do Your Research

Don’t wait, now is the perfect time to continue researching summer camps. Use this time to plan your child’s summer experience. If summer camps are your perfect cause for childcare, you might need to start researching to make sure your child is in good hands.

It’s good to know that your child will not be stuck inside all Summer. Ask about field trips and activities that are fun and keep the brain working.

Review Registration Policy

Before registering & paying anything, it’s a good idea to contact the camp directly & ask questions about their registration & refund policies. Some camps will reimburse the full registration amount, while other camps require a specific time for a refundable deposit, and some camps are non-refundable. So be sure to go in knowing the policy.

Ask About Camp Safety

If the camp is in full-swing, safety will be a big concern. Parents are urged to contact the camp & ask as many questions as possible to review any of the camp’s health-related plans. Do they follow certain guidelines set by the CDC?  How are medical issues & emergencies handled? These are all important questions to ask. Any reputable camp should be expecting these types of calls/questions.
